The Week in Review: Understanding Utusan

"Utusan Melayu was one of the key newspapers that aided the people's political consciousness in the nation's struggle for independence." We talk to Said Zahari, a former Utusan Melayu chief editor who led the 1961 strike against UMNO's ownership of the newspaper. It has now become one of the most vilified newspapers among the Malaysian public, drawing lawsuits from public figures. Said Zahari reminisces a less controversial Utusan that once championed Malaysia's freedom from claws of the British colony.
