Keeping Tradition Alive

Residing in Sarawak, Winnie Copper makes the most out of her environment, as she weaves traditional Sarawakian beads into her jewelry. A regular participant in handicraft festivals all across Malaysia, her designs have caught the eyes of both locals and foreigners alike, who’ve reportedly never seen anything like them. She actively challenges notions that traditional materials can’t be modernized and worked into contemporary outfits, while also maintaining what makes tradition appealing in the first place. She joins us on the show this week, as she walks us through her designs, the creative process behind them, and the importance of culture. Later, Florence Song, Style Lead at Zalora, shares her thoughts on a rather unexpected trend in modern fashion, corduroy.
