Aizat Amdan

Tonight we have a man who rose to prominence from entering Akademi Fantasia when he was 18 and winning Anugerah Juara Lagu with a song written by Yuna in 2012. His name is Aizat Amdan and he’s one of Malaysia’s most recognizable young figures in the mainstream music scene.

For Aizat Amdan, it all started back when he was 12 years old. He started to play the guitar with his brother, Anas. Aizat kept playing for school gigs and competition. As soon as he ended school, Aizat auditioned and was picked as the final 12 contestants for Akademi Fantasia 5 in 2007. Aizat run was a fan-favourite with his rendition of Anuar Zain’s Perpisahan was regarded as one of the best performances the competition has seen. Sadly, it all ended for Aizat when he only reached to the Top 7.

After AF, Aizat released two singles, Sahabat and Hanya Kau Yang Mampu. Hanya Kau Yang Mampu became a major hit in Malaysia earning it the title of Most Downloaded song in 2009 at Anugerah Planet Muzik. Aizat surprised many with his sudden weight loss of 30kgs soon after. By 2008, he released his debut album Percubaan Pertama to critical acclaim. In 2009, Aizat won best song and best performance at Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL) with his songs Pergi and Kau Aku.

By 2010, Urusan Aizat Amdan was released to much fanfare with hits like Susun Silang Kata and Sungai Lui. With Susun Silang Kata winning the best music video award in Anugerah Industri Muzik 2011. 2012 was a special year with Aizat being the first replacement artist to win the overall title of AJL. Yuna could not attend to perform her song Terukir Di Bintang so Aizat stepped up to fill her spot.

With 2014, Aizat released his third album Legasi and it features a star studded featuring line-up with Yuna, Zee Avi, Noh Salleh and Lan from Azlan and The Typewriter. Interestingly, he released it in vinyl and created a bid format for the 222 vinyls up for sale. In the album, Aizat has fan favourites like Dwihati featuring Yuna and earlier this year, he released his new single Langit Tetap Biru.

For the record, Aizat scored 18!
