Jian Goh

Tonight we had a man who was raised in Sarawak, came over here to study engineering, only to return back to the land of cats to create the popular Miao & WafuPafu series of comics! His name is Jian Goh and we talk about orange tabbies, blogs and childhood stories.

Jian Goh was born in Kuching, Sarawak. When he was young, Jian had a strong passion for design and drawing. Up until the age of 17, Jian moved to Malacca to pursue an engineering degree due to his father’s wish. During his degree years, Jian was doing freelance design work in between his assignments then one day he was introduced to the world of blogging and never left since.

After his studies, Jian became an R&D opto-electronic engineer by trade for four years before packing his bags back for his hometown to create the Miao & WafuPafu series of webcomics. Jian’s idea for Miao all started one day due to a life changing experience. He couldn’t fully convey the experience into words and decided to draw a four-panel comic on his blog for it.

The characters in his webcomic are alter-egos of the people in his life. Miao being Jian himself with a slew of animal caricatures for his family members. His new book, Once Upon A Miao is a compilation of Jian Goh’s childhood stories growing up in Kuching, Sarawak. It can be obtained through every major Malaysian bookstore and he’ll be flying off to South Korea to continue on his book tour soon!

For the record, Jian scored 14!
