Jumero

Tonight, we had an upcoming musical trio in the studio. Passionately calling themselves Jumero, brothers Jared and Michael Lim with childhood friend Ryan joined us tonight, and they’re the first trio to have a crack at Smartypants!

The band started with the three members meeting up for jamming sessions after playing football in their neighbourhood during their childhood. Quickly the form of the band was decided - Jared is lead vocalist and guitarist for the band. Michael is the bassist, Ryan is the drummer/percussionist; Both do back-up vocals.

The name Jumero originated from a favourite bus stop of theirs. The band members lived in a place a bit detached from the Malaysia’s main city, so bus rides were in order. Whilst waiting for the bi-hourly bus ride, the three took the first letter of their names, followed with a vowel of their choice. They named their bus stop ‘Jumero’ and also adopted it for their band name in 2012.

Having a style that could be described as ‘acoustic chill beach pop’, the band officially formed in September 2012 just in time for The Star R.AGE’s open mic contest. They aced it and got debut performance slot in Urbanscapes 2012! A plethora of events and a second coming of Urbanscapes in 2014 leads Jumero to releasing their debut album called Stepping Stones earlier in August.

For the record, Jumero scored 10!
