Tonight, we have yet another name tied with the Malaysian theatre scene, she would be directing one play, whilst acting in another and also spending a bit of time writing another one, she is none other than, Marina Tan!

 

Marina started out with singing with the Selangor Philharmonic Society Choir. She stayed with an acapella group, Six2Eight for a few years before head diving in the world of theater and found her calling. Marina’s knowledge of theater was helped greatly the fact she studied a Diploma in Performing from Trinity College Guildhall in the UK.

 

Marina played many roles with one of her notable ones is when she played as Chanel in the Shear Madness series of show, which her portrayal garnered her a nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category for the 2015 Boh Cameronian Arts Awards. She also created and helmed, Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa — An Epic Swashbuckling Adventure!, an adaptation of an old Malay folklore story. It was voted as Audience’s Choice Award (Theater) in the same BOH Awards 2015.

 

Marina co-founded a few organizations namely, Anak Chintan Theater, Box of Delights Family Theater and also the Performing Arts of Malaysia Drama Archive (PADMA). Marina is a major practitioner for children’s theater with during March, she led a 12 session Storytelling course for children and young teens from the age of 9-16 years old to teach how to express oneself via the medium of storytelling.


Marina is currently in the midst of a new production titled, Cheras The Musical.
