Zalee grew up with movies, television and radio in Singapore, which ultimately lead him to pursue a path in graphic arts at LASALLE College of the Arts. He ended up moving to Kuala Lumpur in 1994 and completed his diploma in filmmaking where he was awarded with the ‘Best Film Project’ by the Kodak Worldwide Student Program of Malaysia for his graduation short film.

 

Zalee explored other roles in the film industry such as art directing, cinematography, directing, editing and screenwriting. In 2000, he created co-found a production company, Kino-i, and became one of the pioneers of digital filmmakers here in Malaysia. In 2003, Zalee took up the role of teacher and educator with an Apple Certified Trainer status. His primary role as a film editor permeates to his students through his understanding and opinions of an editor’s role on and off a film set and how it affects the relationship with writers and directors.

 

Zalee’s latest film, Redha, is in post-production and is scheduled to be released soon in Malaysia. Other than that, he is an Apple Certified Trainer and does consulting for professional training with production and post-production in the film industry.
