By The Way is a rapid-fire segment that gives you a snapshot of developing stories in the music world. This week, Spotify removed hundreds of k-pop songs from popular acts such as Sistar, IU, Epik High, and Monsta X due to the expiration of their global license. Soundcloud introduces a “fan-powered royalties” system, a new method of payment to artists in hopes to empower listeners and foster a bigger variety of musical genres. Iconic rock band Queen released a new mobile rhythm game in conjunction with the band’s 50th anniversary. Lastly, Danny Boyle released a first look at his upcoming biopic series about Sex Pistols, based on a 2017 memoir, that is set to premiere on FX.
