Doctor in the House: What Omicron Means for the Pandemic in 2022

2021 was a rollercoaster year. When vaccines began rolling out worldwide, many thought that it meant the beginning of the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, the SARS-CoV-2 virus continued to mutate amidst global vaccine inequity and relaxed restrictions, and many countries across the world saw surges in cases and hospitalisations like they’ve not seen in 2020. As countries struggle with lack of vaccine supply, misinformation, the Omicron variant, and growing pandemic fatigue, what do we need to keep our eye on to avoid 2022 from being worse, and to possibly end the pandemic this year? Dr Leong Hoe Nam, Infectious Disease Physician from Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore joins consultant urologist Dr George Lee to discuss more.
