Curriculum #22: Going through University with Autism

Autism Initiative Malaysia is organizing its first symposium next month, with a focus on the transition to further education and employment for individuals on the autism spectrum. Dr Daniel Leong and Mohd Shafiq Badarul Hisham share more details about the event and what we can do to enable students with autism to succeed in universities.

Daniel was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome in 2011, but spend much of his early years without a diagnosis. A member of Mensa, the largest and oldest high IQ society in the world, and holder of degrees from London School of Economics and Macquarie University, Daniel believes so much of the challenges he faced could be avoided with a diagnosis. Shafiq is currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science at Universiti Malaya, and was appointed by the university to the College Action Committee for the Disabled to advocate for individuals with disabilites. Both Daniel and Shafiq are members of AIM High focus group. For more information or to get in touch, email enquiry.AIMalaysia@gmail.com or call +6011 6168 8665.
