What It’s Like To Volunteer at a Suicide Helpline

Amid concerns about a mental health crisis occuring alongside the COVID-19 pandemic, the role of a suicide helpline is more critical than ever. We talk to someone from Befrienders KL to talk about what it is like to work on a suicide helpline and why they need more volunteers.

If you’d like to donate to keep their services going, visit befrienders.org.my and click on the ‘Donate’ link. You can request for tax exemption receipts for your donations.

These are difficult times for all of us, and it’s ok to not be ok, and it’s ok to reach out for help. So if you’re in need of emotional support, you can call the Befrienders KL at 03-7627 2929 (no telco charges, and 24/7); or Mercy Malaysia’s psychosocial hotline at 03-2935 9935 (during office hours, and telco charges apply).
