The term “Burnout” was coined in the 1970s to describe the consequences of severe stress and high ideals in “helping” professions like doctors and nurses, who often sacrifice themselves for others and would end up exhausted, listless, and unable to cope. Today though, almost everyone claims they’re burned-out. We discuss this dark side of self-sacrifice at work, its causes and consequences, as well as what we can all do to prevent burnout in 2023.
