Competence can be a double edged knife. Being good at something can lead to improved performance but it can also create a competency trap. This happens when organizations become so focused at what they are good at that it creates a comfort zone. While this enhances their reliability of functioning but undermines their ability to adapt. How do organisations get into the competency trap and are there competencies that organizations should acquire to avoid the competency trap?
