Pandemic Panic, A Hotbed For Cyberattackers

There’s no doubt that cybercriminals are hard at work with the ongoing pandemic as businesses struggle to activate BCP or just not capable of coping with the sudden shifts like remote workforce. In today’s climate of uncertainty, threat actors are ready to take advantage of the widespread desire to be informed. People and businesses who are already in a heightened state of emotion, and on overload with changes in all aspects of their lives, are now at risk from bad actors. Hackers are intent on leveraging this state of panic to steal sensitive information. History has proven it – cyber crime often increases during times of heightened emotion, distraction and stress, such as certain religious or festive holidays, elections, and even Black Friday sales events. Today Jeff Sandhu speaks to Tom Kellermann of VMware Carbon Black about the importance of digital distancing and the cybersecurity equivalent to washing your hands for 20 seconds during this pandemic.
