Top 5 at 5: Is BUDI95 All It's Cracked Up To Be?

What started off as targeted RON95 subsidies that excluded Malaysia's top 15 per cent now includes all Malaysians. According to Finance Minsiter II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, projected savings from this plan have decreased from RM8 bullion to RM2.5-4 billion annually. We discuss the effectiveness of this new scheme with Tricia Yeoh, associate professor of practice at the School of Politics & International Relations at the University of Nottingham Malaysia.

Other stories we covered:

• Malaysia's obesity continues to rise: According to data from a National Health Screening Initiative this year from the Ministry of Health, Malaysia saw an increase in the number of obese adults from last year. We discuss Malaysia's approach to tackling obesity in a holistic manner with Professor Dr Rohana Abdul Ghani, President of the Malaysian Obesity Society.

• Are 2 hour parking systems the way to go?: Cities around the Klang Valley have differing opinions on it, with Ampang Jaya being unable to implement it due to a lack of manpower. On the flip side, cities in Selangor are all for it. We speak to Michelle Ng, ADUN for Subang Jaya about the reasons she implemented the system. We also hear from Anthony Lim, senior editor at Paultan on the sentiment from motorists.

• Raising funds for Palestine through art: The Art for Humanity Gaza Art Auction will be taking place on Sunday, 28th of September at MITEC Kuala Lumpur featuring works from leading contemporary artists like Raja Shahriman and Kow Leong Kiang to name a few. The auction was organised by MERCY Malaysia and funds will be directly channeled to support humanitarian programs in Gaza. We speak to Suryani Senja Alias, curator of the auction to learn more about it.

• Trump's rant at the UN Assembly: The president held court for an hour and discussed various topics like climate change, costs of living and his responsibility in ending seven wars... in his own special way. We break down his address.
