Deborah Henry

Tonight, we’ve have a woman who represented Malaysia in Miss World for both 2007 and 2011; with an appearance to go toe-to-toe with her intellect and her strong drive for human rights, it’s the one and only, Deborah Henry!

Deborah’s exotic looks are thanked to the mixture of her Malaysian Indian and Irish descent. Though born in Dublin, Ireland, she was without a doubt was raised in Kuala Lumpur. It all started off with one faithful walk down Jalan Telawi with a few friends when she was spotted by a modelling agent when she was 14.

She officially started modelling when she turned 15 and left for London at the age of 18 in search of magazine covers and adverts to grace. Fortunately the move gave her the opportunities to collaborate with Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel and Ungaro. As glamourous it was, she left due to how she felt she was not respected as a model.

She joined a pageant on a friend’s suggestion. She won Miss Malaysia World 2007 and represented Malaysia in the Miss World 2007 at Sao Paulo, Brazil. Went on to reach the final 16 contestants for Miss World. The highest placement for a Malaysian since Lina Teoh scoring runner-up in 1998. Competed again in 2011 but didn’t make it as far as she did before.

In 2009, Deborah co-founded Fugee School. A charity organisation that provides fundamental education to refugee youths after realizing a dire need for educating refugee children in 2009. This year would mark it’s 6th year of operations and changing lives.

For the record, Deborah scored 13!
