S1E03 - Snip? Snip!

Unpacking Malaysian Cinema is an 8-part series that discusses relevant issues facing Malaysian film industry as told by filmmakers drawing on archival recordings and new interviews.

Malaysian cinema is often defined by its strict regime of censorship and multitude of 'sensitive issues'. But what does censorship mean to those who make films? Drawing from BFM archives, we heard from the Malaysian film censorship board about the rules and regulations involved in film censorship and how these have changed over time. We then spoke to a number of filmmakers to understand their outlooks on Malaysian film censorship system and their experiences with the censorship board.
